Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. VFW Post Teacher Award Chairpersons may submit one candidate in each grade level to their District by Nov. 15. If your Department does not have a District judging, then submit to your Department Headquarters and/or Department Chairperson by Jan.1. The Department may select a single candidate in each grade level and submit them to VFW National Headquarters, on the Dashboard by Feb.1, for National judging. Department Teacher winners that are received at National Headquarters By Feb.1 will receive a VFW National citation for both the winning teacher and their school.
